Costs & Quotes
What will it actually cost?
How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Cardiff or Barry?
Every bathroom is different, so prices vary depending on the size of the room, the suite you choose, and how much work is involved. As a general guide, a full bathroom renovation in Cardiff or Barry typically starts from around £2,500–£4,000. Wet rooms, larger bathrooms, or more complex layouts will be higher. The best way to get an accurate figure is to request a free quote — we'll come out, take a look, and give you a clear price before anything starts.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. All quotes from JM Plumbing Services are completely free with no obligation to proceed. We'll visit your home, discuss what you're looking for, and give you a written price upfront.
Will the price change once work has started?
We always provide a fixed price before starting. In the vast majority of cases it stays exactly as quoted. The only exception is if we uncover something unexpected mid-job — like hidden water damage behind tiles — and we'll always speak to you before doing anything that affects the price.
Is it worth renovating a bathroom before selling?
In most cases, yes. A modern, clean bathroom is one of the first things buyers notice and can add real perceived value to your home. You don't need to spend a fortune — a refreshed suite, new tiling, and updated fixtures can make a significant difference to how the property presents during viewings.
Timescales & Availability
How long will it take?
How long does a bathroom renovation take?
Most standard bathroom renovations take between 3 and 5 working days from start to finish. Larger bathrooms, en-suites with more complex layouts, or wet room installations can take a little longer. We'll always give you a clear timeline before we begin so there are no surprises.
Will I be without a bathroom during the work?
Yes — during the renovation you won't have full use of the bathroom. Most of our jobs are completed within a week, and we work efficiently to keep disruption to a minimum. If you have a second bathroom or WC, we'll work around that where possible. We'll talk through the schedule with you in advance so you can plan accordingly.
How much notice do I need to give to book?
We try to be as flexible as possible. For most jobs we can typically get started within 1–2 weeks. We occasionally have same-week availability depending on our current schedule — get in touch and we'll let you know where we're at.
Can you fit a new bathroom in one day?
A full bathroom installation done properly takes more than one day — there's stripping out, plumbing, tiling, and fitting to work through. However, if you need individual elements replaced such as a toilet, basin, or shower unit, we can often turn those around quickly.
What's Included
What's actually covered?
Do you supply the bathroom suite and materials, or do I?
Either option works for us. We can source and supply everything — suite, tiles, fixtures, and fittings — or we can work with materials you've already purchased. If you're buying your own, we'll advise you on specifications and measurements. Please note that we can't be responsible for the quality of customer-supplied materials.
Does the renovation include tiling?
Yes. Our full bathroom installations include all tiling work as part of the job. We handle everything from stripout to final clean, so you don't need to find separate tradespeople.
Do I need a separate plumber, or do you handle all the plumbing?
We handle everything. JM Plumbing Services are fully qualified to carry out all plumbing work involved in a bathroom renovation — there's no need to coordinate with anyone else. We don't carry out gas or boiler work, and we'll say so upfront if a job needs it.
Do I need planning permission to renovate my bathroom?
In almost all cases, no. Standard bathroom renovations in Cardiff and Barry don't require planning permission. The exception would be significant structural alterations or conversions in certain property types. If there's any question about this, we'll flag it before work starts.
Do you fit wet rooms?
Yes. We install wet rooms as well as standard bathrooms and en-suites. Wet rooms require careful waterproofing and drainage installation — something we're experienced in.
Quality & Peace of Mind
Can we trust you with our home?
Are you insured?
Yes. JM Plumbing Services are fully insured for all bathroom fitting and renovation work across Cardiff and Barry. We're happy to provide details on request.

How do I know if a bathroom fitter is trustworthy?
Look for a few key things: a clear written quote before work starts, proof of insurance, genuine local reviews, and someone who takes the time to answer your questions. We'd always recommend getting at least two quotes and speaking to the tradesperson before committing — not just messaging online.

Bathroom Problems & Repairs
Something's already gone wrong.
What should I do if I notice a leak in my bathroom?
Turn off the water supply to that area straight away — look for the isolation valve under the toilet or sink, or use the main stopcock if needed. Don't ignore it, even if it seems minor. Water damage builds up quickly behind tiles and under floors. Give us a call and we'll advise on the best next step.
How do I know if my bathroom needs a full renovation or just a repair?
Not every problem needs a complete overhaul. A dripping tap, running toilet, or cracked tile can often be repaired on its own. Signs that a full renovation might make more sense include: persistent damp or mould that keeps returning, widespread grout and sealant failure, an outdated suite with hard-to-find parts, or flooring and tiles that are no longer properly waterproof. We'll always give you an honest assessment — we won't push you toward a renovation if a repair will do the job.
How long do bathroom suites last?
A well-installed bathroom suite can last 15–20 years or more. The suite itself often outlasts the tiling, sealant, and fixtures around it. Regular maintenance — re-sealing every few years, keeping grout in good condition — extends the life significantly.
What causes mould in a bathroom and how do I prevent it?
Mould in bathrooms is almost always caused by poor ventilation combined with moisture. Make sure your extractor fan is working properly and runs for long enough after showers. Re-seal around the bath and shower regularly so moisture can't get behind the tiles. If mould keeps returning despite good ventilation and cleaning, it may indicate a deeper moisture issue worth having looked at.
